(Llangollen won 5-4 on penalties)

SPOT-ON Llangollen Town have successfully made it through to the second stage of a national competition.

Derek Booth’s side just managed to prevail during their Welsh Trophy first round trek to take on Welsh Alliance hosts Y Felinheli.

Both sides shared the six goals that were scored in normal time and the extra time period that followed.

Player boss Booth, Steffan Jones and Ben Lloyd got the Llangollen goals to ensure a 3-3 scoreline and it was the Denbighshire side who held their nerve to win the penalty shootout 5-4.

Meanwhile, a near 100 mile trek south ended in disappointment for Clwyd League Premier Division side Llansannan.

In the first round of the Welsh Trophy, the villagers had to fly south for a tie with West Wales side Aberaeron  who won 3-1.

Wrexham Area League Division One outfit Llanuwchllyn failed in their quest to down Premier Division club Penycae in the opening round of the Welsh Trophy.

The higher ranked club booked their second-round place with a 5-1 scoreline.
