IT was a 'dream come true' for one bride last week as she took centre stage at the wedding of the year.
Brian Wyn Rogers and Susan Walmsley-Hunter from Ruthin tied the knot after scooping the prize of a £25,000 wedding.
The stunning competition with the Llangollen Hotels Group was held in the Free Press and two of our sister papers - The Leader and the Border Counties Advertiser.
Six finalists, voted as the most worthy by the readership, were then invited to a judging day.
It was Brian and Susan who swayed the judging panel of Llangollen Hotels Group MD Stephanie Booth, Llangollen town mayor Mike Pugh and NWN’s own Tracey Jones.
Susan and Brian chose their location - Bodidris Hall and the date August 27, and the rest was all organised for them, from the photographer to the cake, flowers to the dresses.
Speaking the day before the wedding, Susan said she was so excited that her legs kept 'turning to jelly'.
"I really can't wait, I am so excited," she said.
"I can't believe I am getting married.”
Susan said her wedding dress was 'more than perfect' and was the second dress she tried on.
"I said what style I was looking for, but this dress was something I wouldn't have gone for, it was a bit out of my comfort zone.
"But when I tried it on, I just knew, my eyes filled up, it was really weird, I didn't think I would feel like that."
The couple were joined by 83 guests on the day, and a further 60 guests at night.
And to think this all may never have happened.
"I nearly didn't enter the competition, I thought I would never win and that it was probably a fix," said Susan.
"Then when I got the call to say we had won I didn't believe it.
"We have been together 11 years, we got engaged two years later, and bought our house six years ago.
"So there was no way we could afford to save for a wedding.
"For me this is a proper little dream come true!"
