Free Press Editor Nic Outterside recounts the personal story of 1970s Formula 1 driver David Purley





IT is strange that some things in life go full circle.

That is how I feel now writing this piece about a family friend and personal hero, as part of a testament to another man and hero whom I never met, who died 31 years ago.

But this is David Purley's story... another chapter in the same Lost Generation of Tom Pryce...

Just after the end of World War II my maternal grandfather, Eric and his good friend Charlie Purley started a new refrigeration business in Bognor Regis, West Sussex.
