IT is still a waiting game for councillors hoping to attract Wales' biggest cultural festival to the Vale of Clwyd in five years' time.

The latest chapter on the link between Denbigh and the 2013 National Eisteddfod was read at the latest meeting of Denbigh Town Council.

Town clerk Medwyn Jones informed councillors that he had received an e-mail from National Eisteddfod director Elfed Roberts.

Mr Jones said: "The situation is, at the moment, they are concentrating on getting sites for the Eisteddfod between 2010 and 2015.

"They are in the process of looking at sites that have been offered to them and they are looking at 2010, 2011 and 2012 at the moment.

"Once they have decided on those three locations, they will then be looking at 2013, 2014 and 2015."

Mr Jones said that Mr Roberts' correspondence was asking the council "to be patient" for the time being.

Last June a meeting between the Eisteddfod and the Welsh Local Government Association decided that Denbighshire should hold the National Eisteddfod in 2013.

At the time, Cllr Raymond Bartley said: "A lot of people have said they are prepared to work hard to get the Eisteddfod in 2013.

"We extended this invitation ... and we should say now we will fight to get the Eisteddfod in Denbigh.

"Not Ruthin, or Rhyl, but Denbigh."

In September further plans for a possible Denbigh National Eisteddfod were put on hold until early in the New Year.
