THE cold comfort farm where horses and other animals were neglected and mistreated for years is at last closed for business.

Ty Newydd Farm at Llandegla is empty and boarded up, just eight weeks after the death of two horses and the removal of 30 others by council enforcement officers.

Now only a dilapidated old Range Rover is dumped outside the farm house and the muddy fields and sheds around lie deserted.

In February this year 31 horses were removed from the farm after a foal died in appalling conditions the previous week.

The removal of the animals was triggered by the Free Press who alerted the RSPCA and Denbighshire County Council to the dying foal after receiving a call from a concerned reader.

The council had given notice to the owner, Anita Ashley, to improve the horses' living conditions but considered this had not been acted upon.

All horses were taken to places of safety.
