DENBIGHSHIRE'S library service website has been highlighted as an example of best practice in a national survey.

The SOCITM (Society of IT Managers) Better Connected 2008 report, which looked at public organisations websites across the country, said the service offered "a very good libraries selection with positive encouragement to read, and lots of information about books and authors.

Sadly no new books list, though there are DVDs".

Denbighshire's Library Service gained a maximum three points and was one of only four authorities to gain the maximum points in the category.

In their investigation of library service websites, SOCITM looked to see if a book could be renewed online, if booking public access to the internet was available, if people were able to find about new books in the library, how well customised the library catalogue and renewals system is and how integrated the catalogue within the website was.

"We are delighted that SOCITM has highlighted the achievements of the library service website as an example of best practice and it is a true reflection of the tremendous amount of work going on to promote access to the wealth of information available," said lead member for promoting Denbighshire Cllr Gwyneth Kensler.

"Libraries is about much more than lending books. There is free internet access which is proving extremely popular and people can access a wealth of information, including newspapers and online encyclopaedias. The library also hires out DVDs, provides access to the full library catalogues, details of mobile library stops and much more."
