A CELEBRITY chef who's cooked for the Queen is Coleg Llandrillo Cymru's first skills ambassador.

Denbigh chef Bryn Williams, who trained at Coleg Llandrillo Cymru, has agreed to become the skills ambassador for the area of hospitality and catering within the college.

Bryn, who last year won a televised national competition to cook for the Queen, will be pivotal in raising the profile of hospitality and helping students at the college to develop the skills needed for the industry.

Students will get the chance to work alongside Bryn and pick up tips from one of the industry's high-fliers.

Bryn, 29, who beat a host of top UK chefs in the hit BBC series The Great British Menu, said: "It is a great college with a brilliant atmosphere and I am really looking forward to returning.

"Even though it is ten years since I finished my training there, I still think about my experiences now.

"I have fond memories of my time there.

"The lecturers made it; they were highly skilled and extremely friendly."

Bryn, who is head chef at Odette's in Regent's Park in London, will be involved in several exciting initiatives planned for the coming months.

He will be running a masterclass evening at the college, where hospitality students will get the chance to work side-by-side with Bryn.

Bryn will be central in the design of a catering competition for local school pupils and the launches of a junior chefs' academy and a scholarship scheme for further education colleges.

Director of the college's skills academy, Shyam Patiar, said: "We are delighted that Bryn has agreed to become a skills ambassador for the college.

"He has an international reputation for the quality and creativity of his work.

"Whilst at the college Bryn had a great passion for food and was a very competitive young man.

"The students are very excited at the prospect of meeting him."
