A VALE of Clwyd housewife was startled by 'weird shapes' in the sky over Ruthin last weekend.
The woman, who does not wish to be named, was travelling to Ruthin around 12.30am on Sunday (November 23), when she stopped her car after seeing strange lights in the sky.

"I was driving near the roundabout at Tesco and saw lights in the sky.

"I was expecting them to be fireworks, so I was waiting for the bang or shower of colour, but nothing happened.

"They were moving, ever so slowly. When I got to my destination I got out of the car and saw them, there were about seven or eight of them, but they were closer by now.

"And there was no noise whatsoever.

"They were a bright terracotta colour, and just carried on moving over to the right and over Moel Famau.

"They were shaped with a flat bottom and a rounded top, how you would expect it to look. It sounds like a cliche really," she added.

"I was watching them for about three to four minutes, they were just drifting like a glider."

The woman's son also saw the flying objects, but could not make out what they were either.

"I would just like to know if anyone else has seen these objects, as I can't stop thinking about it, it was very weird.

"I don't believe in UFOs. So I just want an explanation to this really, as I don't want to believe that they could be UFOs," she added.

This sighting in Ruthin follows another report on the same evening in Saltney, Flintshire.

A woman contacted the Evening Leader, claiming to have seen "six UFOs".

Margaret Cushing contacted the Leader on Sunday, November 23, and said: "Last night I was walking down Boundary Lane, Saltney, at 6.45pm, when six balls of light moved across the sky.

"They took three to four minutes to pass, there was no noise, they were very low – definitely not aircraft or helicopters."

However, Buckley office clerk, Nerys Jones, said she was sure the Ruthin sighting was probably rogue Chinese lanterns floating in the night sky.

"They often let these lanterns off into the sky at functions at places like Ruthin Castle Hotel, and in the darkness they look a lot like UFOs," she said.

"A similar thing happened over Stratford last year, and the UFOs were later proven to be just paper lanterns," she added.
