DENBIGHSHIRE County Council has paid tribute to its community arts officer who died last Tuesday, May 6.

Steve Brake was a key figure in opening a new galley in Llangollen and he established the Wales Portrait Award.

He was appointed by Clwyd County Council in 1980 to establish the Clwyd Arts and Exhibition Service and joined Denbighshire as County Arts Officer on local government reorganisation in 1996.

He was instrumental in establishing an Arts in Healthcare practice across the whole of North Wales.
