THE Bala and Penllyn Wrexham Hospital League of Friends has handed a £5,000 cheque to Mealor Hospital, Wrexham as part of its annual donation
More than 80 people, including representatives from the Maelor Hosptial, attended the League of Friends' annual meeting on Wednesday at Bro Tegid Centre, Bala where Huw Roberts, chairman of the Bala and Penllyn League of Friends, handed the cheque to Margaret Brydon, chairman for the Wrexham League of Friends, who also contribute to Maelor Hospital, to allow the hospital to purchase much-needed equipment.
The Bala and Penllyn Wrexham Hospital League of Friends has been donating to Maelor Hospital for nearly 40 years, having been established in 1980.
Eirian Roberts, secretary, said: “We hope this will contribute to buying much-needed equipment for the hospital.
“We have held a number of events throughout the year such as coffee evenings, our annual golf day and street collection that have contributed to the donation.
The League of Friends has donated to specific equipment in the past, such as monitors and shower chairs for the disabled. The location of this year’s donation is yet to be decided.
The evening was also attended by Alejandro Jones, from Patagonia, who has ancestral ties with Mr Roberts. Mr Jones, who has a creative presence in Patagonia having released a CD with his brother, performed songs in both Welsh and Spanish.
Ms Roberts said: “We were very fortunate to have Alejandro visit and he was very talented.
“I would like to thank the committee members who have given their time to volunteer, and to the people of Bala, Penllyn and surrounding areas for their kindness and support."
The League of Friends' next fundraiser will take place with its annual golf Dday in August.
The committee is always looking for volunteers to help find new ways to raise funds.
