DESPITE torrential rain, thunder and lightning more than 100 people attended a sheep shearing competition in Bala last Sunday.
The Plas Coch hotel speed shearing competition, held in a marquee at the rear of the hotel, had junior, senior, team and open classes.
Elen Parry the licensee of Plas Coch, said: “It was a great day, despite the weather.
"Many competitors turned out and we were lucky to get the sheep in on Saturday in preparation for the event.”
She added: “I am grateful to everyone who has helped and supported the event.”
Competitors used a bicycle-powered shearing machine.
The team class proved quite popular with 10 teams competing, and the winning team local lads: Rhys Cablyd, Oswyn Roberts and Huw John came first shearing a sheep in 38.55 seconds.
Rhys Williams, of Llansanan, won the senior class in 33.30 seconds, and Mathew Evans, from the Gower, won the open class in 26.84 seconds.
