Two people have been airlifted to hospital following a crash near Corwen.

Police are appealing for witnesses following a road traffic collision involving two cars today (Wednesday) on the A5 at Glasfryn, which has resulted in three people being taken to hospital and a seven hour road closure.

Two casualties requiring immediate medical assistance have been taken by air ambulance to Stoke Hospital, with another patient taken to Glan Clwyd.

A Welsh Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We were called today at about 9.30am to reports of a road traffic collision involving two cars on the A5 near Cerrigydrudion, Corwen.

"We responded with two emergency ambulances and two air ambulances, where two patients were taken by road ambulance to Glan Clwyd Hospital, Rhyl and one patient was conveyed by air ambulance to Stoke Hospital, Staffordshire.”

The collision, involving a dark coloured Ford Mondeo and a grey Volkswagen campervan, forced police to close the stretch of the road between Glasfryn and Cerrigydrudion from about 9.30am.

The road has since reopened as of about 4.30pm.

Sgt Emlyn Hughes of the Roads Policing Unit said: “The Mondeo was travelling towards Betws-y Coed and the VW campervan was travelling towards Cerrigydrudion.

"We are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the collision or who may have seen the vehicles being driven prior to the incident to contact police.”
