A teenager has been arrested in connection to the armed robbery of a Denbigh bank.

North Wales Police made the arrest of an 18 year old man who may be linked to the incident at the HSBC bank, on Vale Street Denbigh last week.

A police spokesperson said: "An 18 year old local man has been arrested on suspicion of robbery and released under investigation."

The incident, which occurred at about 10.20 am last Tuesday, saw police swarm Denbigh in search of the offender, believed to have threatened bank staff with a concealed weapon before making off with a quantity of cash.

The offender is described as about 6 foot tall and of average build. He was wearing a mask with markings on it, a dark hooded top, blue/grey jeans, a fluorescent sleeveless vest and black gloves.

Detectives spoke to witnesses last week and studied CCTV footage seized from various locations within the town, including the camera of an anonymous business owner on Vale Street who spoke to the Free Press last week following the incident.

The Free Press also reported last week of stills of a suspect, caught on the bank's CCTV cameras during the incident, being circulated by police to aid appeals for more information.

The release of the images came shortly after news of similar bank robbery carried out by two offenders at the Barclays Bank in Queensferry on Station road, at the similar time of 10.19 am on Wednesday, April 18.

The spokesperson added: "We are keeping an open mind about links between the two incidents."

Police are urging shoppers and businesses to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity around shops and cash machines.

Anyone with any information is urged to call St Asaph CID on 101 with reference W048796.
