AN APPEAL to raise money for a former St Asaph student who has been diagnosed with a rare form of cancer and needs a prosthetic blade will be the recipient of an upcoming ‘international’ fundraiser in Denbigh.

The Ben Rawson Limb Appeal, which is campaigning to raise £50,000 for Ben Rawson, from St Asaph, diagnosed with a rare bone cancer, Ewing’s Sarcoma, at 21-years-old during his final year at university, will be the recipient of funds raised at Denbigh’s upcoming International Fayre.

The International Fayre, held at Myddelton College, which will showcase all things global, including Denbighshire-based producers of international goods, as well as entertainment, games and family-friendly activities originating from across the world, will look to help Mr Rawson on his path to recovery.

Mark Roberts, headteacher at Myddelton College, said: “I am delighted to be hosting yet another community event at the College that allows us to raise money for a local cause and also open our doors to the public.

“As a school made up of more than 15 nationalities it’s fitting that our summer fayre should have a strong international flavour.”

The event will help to raise funds needed for Mr Rawson’s appeal, which is £13,000 away from its target, through stall costs, food and drink, games and a raffle.

Alongside the market stalls, which will see Thai jewellery, fair-trade fashion from Malawi, wooden gifts from North Africa, there will also be entertainment including Bollywood-style dancing, a Chinese dragon parade and an American-style jazz band.

Mr Rawson’s mother, Eirlys, said: “The support for Ben has been absolutely incredible. It has far exceeded any hopes the family had of financing the cost of a prosthetic blade to enable Ben to participate in competitive sport.

“Thank you to everyone who has played a part in making this happen.”

Stephanie Kent-Nye, event organiser, said: ““It’s fantastic to find such a wealth of international products and foods from across the globe here in North Wales.

“We have a few places left, so if there are any traders that have goods with an international flavour, we would love to hear from them.”

The Myddelton College International Fayre will take place on June 23 from midday.

Entry is free and parking available onsite.
