DENBIGH was awash with colour, sounds and people on Saturday during the town's sixth annual carnival.

Thousands of people turned out to watch an impressive procession which saw floats, walking parties in fancy dress, marching bands, the fire service, army cadets, the Carnival Royal Retinue and more.

Some cheeky alpacas were on hand, making visitors smile, as well as spectacularly dressed stilt walkers.

Plenty of fun was had on Middle Parc playing fields. As well as wrestlers and a petting zoo, there was entertainment, live bands, a fun fair, gymnastic displays and even a rodeo bull.

This year's carnival theme took in Disney.

Helena Cawthray, carnival treasurer, said: "The floats, walking parties and fancy dress showed off a huge range of films and characters - from finding Nemo to The Lion King.

"The committee spends the entire year preparing for the carnival. Again, this year was free for everyone and the community spirit was in full effect.

"The procession began at 11am from Caledfryn - Denbighshire County Council offices on Smithfield Road.

"Every part of the route was lined with people. The procession was even larger than last year and took about 50 minutes to travel around from start to finish. It was a real sight to behold."

Helena estimated that more than 4000 people enjoyed the day.

She added: "They took in the sights from the Britannia Wrestlers, Clwyd Axemen, and Cerrig Falconry.

"There was also live music, zumba and a circus skills workshops with Syrcas Cimera.

"The beer tent, real ales and prosecco were also very popular, as the sun shone down on the field."
