PUPILS at a Ruthin primary school will be provided with new laptops after the school received £4,000 under Tesco Ruthin’s community grant scheme.

Ysgol Pen Barras received the grant under Tesco’s ‘Bags of Help’ scheme, in which money raised by from the sale of carrier bags is used to fund thousands of projects in communities across the UK.

Shoppers were able to vote at the supermarket’s Ruthin store by placing a blue coin in the bucket belonging to the community projects they wished to receive the grant.

Liz Perrin, community officer for Tesco Ruthin, said: ““It’s great for Tesco’s customers to see their money being reinvested into the community where it will have a positive impact.

Ysgol Pen Barras, who recently moved to their new shared site with Rhos Street School, applied for the funding to acquire new Chromebook laptops with more up-to-date software to help with the pupils' learning.

Ms Perrin continued: “Pen Barras will now be able to acquire Chromebook for their pupils which will help make a nice start to their new location.”

“The ‘Bags of Help’ scheme is ongoing at Tesco Ruthin, with grants provided to community causes every two months.

“It’s really good fun. I would like to encourage anyone that might be interested in receiving a grant for their cause to apply, which can be done online.”
