A woman from Bala who was given a kidney by her mum has taken on a sponsored walk to say thank you. Mari Siwan Davies, from Parc near Bala, was diagnosed with chronic kidney disease in 2010 when she was 17-years-old and studying A-Levels at Ysgol Y Berwyn in Bala. But in 2012, Mari’s mum Connie Davies underwent risky surgery to give her daughter one of her kidneys,to prevent the disease becoming life threatening and forcing Mari to go on dialysis. Mari, who now has three kidneys, said: “I was tired all the time and I couldn’t do anything. I just had no energy in me. Mari organised a Charity Walk last Sunday afternoon raising money towards kidney charities. The walk was a distance of around four and a half miles starting from the Penllyn Leisure Centre and the sunny weather was ideal condition for a splendid walk. Mari continued: “Whilst being ill and after my transplant I received and still receive overwhelming support from my family, friends and the community. A very successful day doing a charity walk towards Kidney Wales thank you to everyone who came. “We don’t as much walking as the runners are doing in the London marathon but every penny counts. I am forever grateful and thankful. I am organising this walk to give back and support the charity for the future. Thank you for your generosity.” Mari, who now works for Muniad Meithryn, has regular check ups every three months and is on immune suppressants tablets for the rest of her life to prevent her body from rejecting the kidney.
