A man has been airlifted to hospital following a serious three-vehicle crash on the A539 in Llangollen.

Fire and ambulance services were called to the incident close to the Sun Trevor on Monday afternoon, while an air ambulance was also in attendance.

One man has been airlifted to Stoke Hospital, while another person has been taken by ambulance to Wrexham Maelor Hospital.

North Wales Fire and Rescue Service was called at around 2.10pm and crews from Wrexham and Llangollen attended the scene.

A spokesman said that firefighters used cutting equipment to release people from the vehicles.  

A Welsh Ambulance Service spokesman said: ”We were called at approximately 2.10pm to reports of a three-vehicle road traffic accident on the A539 in Llangollen near the Sun Inn.

“We sent a paramedic in a rapid response car and two emergency ambulances to the scene, where crews were also supported by a Wales Air Ambulance.

"One male has been airlifted to hospital in Stoke, and a second patient has been taken by land ambulance to Wrexham Maelor Hospital.”

The collision has led to disruption to local bus services, with Denbighshire Council confirming that 'all service buses along this route to include the X5 Coastline, T3 Lloyds Coaches and 5 Arriva Buses Wales shall experience delays of at least 45 mins'.
