WITH summer fast-approaching a Denbigh volunteer task force is calling for volunteers to help in getting the town ready for the sunshine.

‘Denbigh in Bloom’, a gardening volunteer group, is grafting away to improve the flower beds on Denbigh roundabout and Temple Bar.

The group is an extension of the RHS' 'Britain in Bloom' initiative that promotes environmental responsibility, community participation and horitcultural achievement.

Lindsey Tasker, chair of Denbigh in Bloom, said: “We’re hoping to take on as many people as possible that want to get involved. Anyone is welcome to join, though they will need to bring their own gloves and tools to use.

“We’re planning to grow year-on-year as a relatively new In Bloom group, starting in 2016. It would be great if people in the community could get behind us and support the work our volunteers are doing. Appreciation from the community would help spur them on.”

The group has received £1,500 funding from the National Garden Scheme, which has allowed the group to buy a range of flowers, including broom flowers, cherry blossom and crab apples.

Ms Tasker continued: “We’re planning to grow year-on-year as a relatively new In Bloom group, starting in 2016. It would be great if people in the community could get behind us and support the work our volunteers are doing.”

The group meets at Temple Bar every Sunday between 10am and midday.

There will also be a brand new TV series on BBC2 showcasing the power of the RHS In Bloom initiative and community gardening to change lives for the better, on Monday April 16 at 6.30pm
