LEGENDS from the footballing world will be heading to the Vale of Clwyd for a special event next week.

A Ruthin Town XI will take on a Manchester United side in a fundraising match to help improve the facilities at Ruthin Memorial Playing Fields.

The match will take place next Friday, June 8, kicking off at 7.30pm.

Manchester United legends Denis Irwin and Mickey Thomas will take to the pitch at Memorial Park Fields for the match, along with former player Russell Beardsmore, Manchester United match day announcer Steve Keegan and MUTV presenter Sully.

"We would love a packed out ground to support the cause, but it is also great the community are able to watch such Manchester United legends such as Denis Irwin playing at Ruthin," said Ruthin Town vice-chairman Andy Edwards.

"It's all thanks to Jamie Lewis, who's from Ruthin and works for Manchester United.

"Without him, this would not be happening.

"His dad Pete Lewis used to be president of Ruthin Town before Neil Taylor."

The Ruthin Town team will comprise of current players plus former favourites at the club, with first team manager Chris Williams at the helm.

"It will be a competitive game and we are going to roll out the older guys to celebrate our history a bit," added Edwards.

"The main thing is for people to have a good time.

"It sends a message out to the players that we want to keep doing things to make the facilities better for them."

Admission to the game is priced at £10 for adults, with children admitted free of charge.

A further question-and-answer event is scheduled for 9pm in the clubhouse, limited to 100 people.

Pre-booked tickets are £25, while they are £30 on the night if spaces are available.
