1st Ruthin-Brynbach Scout Group

RUTHIN Scout Group recently held its Annual General Meeting at the Scout Hall in Mill Street, Ruthin.

Mike Bordoli, the retiring chairman, welcomed parents, leaders and members, and also the district commissioner Simon Bannaghan.

Mike also welcomed Jim Tadgell and Mark Braxton, two ex-Scouters who had shown an interest in joining the group.

Group scout leader Georgia Crawley reported the fact that the group was growing and adults were welcome to join in the adventure of Scouting as leaders or helpers in any of the four sections.

She also explained how Scouting was to develop over the next few years, with computerised programmes which would help the leaders with their members records and programme planning.

At the end of the meeting, Matthew Lewis was elected as chairman, with both Jim Tadgell and Mark Braxton joining the executive committee.

Mark, who has a long history of scouting in America, will also be visiting the Scout troop to see how they operate, while Jim will concentrate on sharing his vast scouting knowledge to the committee.

During the evening, Simon Bannaghan presented assistant group scout leader Lesley Bordoli with, much to her surprise, her 40-year service award.

Scout leader Katie Lewis informed the audience of the winner of the best Scout of the year award, which went to James Johnson.

James was presented with the shield by last year's winner Dan Smith.

The evening was finished with musical entertainment and a 'bake off' tasting session of cakes and truffles made by the scout troop.
