A woman who was furious that her sister had given the police her details instead of her own took her back to the police station a few hours later to admit she had lied.

Mother-of-two Anna Parry paid a hefty price for her untruths when she appeared at Llandudno magistrates’ court and admitted five offences.

Prosecutor Diane Williams told the court that on the night of April 6 police stopped Parry as she was driving in Queen Street, Rhyl. Her eyes were glazed and she was found to have 62 microgrammes of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath, the legal limit being 35.

Parry, aged 28, of Fron Haul, St Asaph, gave her name as Rachel Mary Parry and an address in Nottingham – her sister’s details – before being released.

Later that morning Rachel Parry took the defendant back to the police station where she confessed to having taken her mother’s car.

“Rachel was not happy and insisted on taking her,” said the prosecutor.

Parry pleaded guilty to driving with excess alcohol, taking a vehicle without the owner’s consent, having no insurance or licence and obstructing a police officer.

She was handed a bill totalling £1,852 for fines and court costs and banned from driving for 20 months.

Joseph Hendron, defending, told the court: “She is incredibly embarrassed and ashamed by her actions.”
