LOVE Island champion Amber Davies will give her thoughts on this year's series as she turns columnist for the summer.

The 21-year-old from Denbigh, who won the ITV2 reality show in 2017 with her then-partner Kem Cetinay, will be working for The Sun newspaper for the duration of the tv show.

The former St Asaph Ysgol Glan Clwyd pupil will also be doing daily quizzes.

Mum Susan Davies said her daughter had been on an "incredible" rollercoaster-ride since finishing the show, which sees singletons living in an idyllic villa in Spain for several weeks while trying to find love.

The former leading member of TiC (Theatre in the Community) drama group in Rhyl, has in the last few days spoken on Lorraine about her hopes for the new contestants - who entered the villa on Monday - and ex-Kem. She also made an appearance on BBC Breakfast and spoke on BBC Radio 5 live.

Susan, who said she only plans to 'dip in and out' of the programme this year, said: "I can’t believe a year has passed so quickly. What a whirlwind year.

"Amber will be watching this year's show all the time. She has her favourites already - she likes Hayley [Hughes] and Eyal [Booker]. She will be writing for The Sun three days a week and also be doing quizzes online.

"She has been on Lorraine, Breakfast and 5 live - she comes across very natural. She is very open minded and confident.

"She has had the most amazing time since the programme ended and she is very humbled what opportunities she had."

Amber has already shared her first column and revealed she hosted a launch party last night (Monday) to mark the return of Love Island.

"She is in a position to give advice to this year's contestants," Susan added.

"Amber said last year, you are aware of the cameras to start with - but soon you forget they are there, unless they are close up. You've got to put your real self out there and not create a persona and be able to deal with the public eye when you come out.

"People have fallen in love with her and her personality.

"She is only 21, and she loves the life she has and is so grateful to her fans - as it is those who have put her there - but she also likes to come home and have family time.

"She has had some ups and downs. You do make mistakes and you learn from it.

"Life has been very much the same for me - I go to work and meet up with Amber.

"Love Island took over our lives last summer.

"It has been life-changing."
