A LITTLE girl awarded the title of Minnie Face Of Wales 2018 is to live out her dreams and walk in the footsteps of Disney princesses in November.

Dahna-Kay Hornby-Mee, aged six, was a finalist for Face of Wales 2018.

She won and was crowned the new Minnie Face of Wales 2018 at the event in Mold.

The St Asaph VP Infant School pupil will now represent Wales in the international finals at Disneyland Paris in November at the Face of Europe and the World.

Dahna-Kay also four other awards in her category – Miss Publicity; Miss Charity; Best Interview and Miss Popularity – and was additionally declared overall charity winner after raising £1,085, which will be split between East Kent Headway Head Injury support and Glan Clwyd Hospital cancer unit. Her mum, Kasey Hornby-Mee, of St Asaph, said: “She had the biggest smile on her face when she won. I was getting all teary. It is a natural beauty contest; she doesn’t wear any make up and she has made new friends and her confidence is just amazing.

“She can keep the crown. She doesn’t have to give it back next year – they will get a new one for the next winner. I’m so proud of her for her wanting to do this. She said to me ‘mummy, I want to do it’. She doesn’t want to take the crown off. She wears it to the shop and she stands there and tells people all about it and what she has done. She is so excited about Disneyland. She will be like a princess.”

Dahna-Kay, whose favourite Disney princess is Ariel from The Little Mermaid, has done lots of charity and volunteer work and will now continue to raise money for East Kent Headway Head Injury support.

Kasey, 26, who is married to James, 24, said: “Dahna-Kay loves Ariel and she is most looking forward to meeting her and seeing the Disney parade castle. I will be going with her. They will pay for her and I will pay for myself. She was at Denbigh Carnival and will be making an appearance at Prestatyn Carnival next month. She will be doing a lot of fundraising over the next few months and appearances. Before going to Disneyland, she will do a two-day rehearsal in Kent. She will also be doing interviews, one recorded, and show her portfolio, which highlights her fundraising and appearances. I would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who has supported us: businesses, family, friends and all who have donated prizes for events we have done.

“Dahna-Kay is super excited for the finals and cannot wait to try and bring back the crown to Wales.”
