BEING able to boast working alongside the likes of Kate Winslet, Johnny Depp, Helena Bohnam Carter and Jonathan Rhys Myers is certainly impressive. And if you've managed to do all of this by the tender age of
15 - it's just plain remarkable.
But Freddie Highmore has not only managed all this, but has now also fronted a children's film that rivals the Golden Compass and - dare I say it - Harry Potter in the storytelling stakes.
Based on the children's series by Holly Black and Tony DiTerlizzi The Spiderwick Chronicles follows the story of the Grace family who leave New York and move into the secluded old house owned by their great, great uncle Arthur Spiderwick.
Unable to explain the strange disappearances and accidents that seem to be happening on a daily basis, the family blames one of the twins - Jared (Freddie Highmore).
When he and siblings Simon and Mallory investigate what's really going on, they uncover the fantastic truth of the Spiderwick estate and of the creatures that inhabit it.
The story itself is a great one - giving movie makers a distinct advantage from the outset - but it has been transferred from page to film very well and is bound to inspire children of all ages to go out and pick up the novels.
One thing is for certain, if you take the kids along to see this they will have an imagination fuelling 107 minutes of cinematic fun.
