Resident Evil: Extinction (15)

IF there's ever an outbreak of the T-Virus and the dead are brought back to life in the form of flesh-eating zombies - then I want Milla Jovovich on my side.
Hell, even if that doesn't happen I'd still want her on my side, that woman can kick arse!
This third installment in the computer game based zombie franchise follows Alice (Jovovich) as she travels around the US, Mad Max style, looking for fuel in a world that is now barren thanks to the Umbrella Corporation's T-Virus.
Since the last film ended the virus has spread all over the world with the few survivors that remain being forced to travel from one place to another avoiding the undead and scavaging for food.
Meanwhile, the surviving members of Umbrella have holed up in secure, underground bases in countries around the world, trying to find a cure. Being the unethical company that they are, this, of course, involves playing God by creating clones and setting zombies on innocent people.
As is usual with practically every post-apocolyptic film these days, it's bursting with morals and dilemmas that we're facing now with regard to cloning, disease control and medical research.
The real difference with this film is that unlike most zombie movies that are filmed in the dark the majority of this one is filmed in the bright daylight - primarily in the desert - which gives it a distinctive look.
My only complaint is that at times the undead look a little too fake and very obviously prosthetic which does spoil the tension a bit but, despite this, thanks to a bigger budget this third Resident Evil film is the best one yet, particularly with the impressive desolate Vegas sets, and, with an ending that cries out for a sequel, it looks like there could be a lot more to come.

8.5/10
