Jumper (12A)

IN the year 2008 a strange blend of wool and nylon has formed into an oversized sweater and is threatening life as we know it.
I'm lying really - this sci- fi adventure doesn't really have anything to do with the jumpers we wear.
Instead it takes us on a journey with David Rice (Hayden Christensen) who suddenly discovers that he has the ability to teleport himself to anywhere in the world. Whether it's the pyramids in Egypt or the Coliseum in Rome, he can quite literally jump from one side of the earth to the other.
Sounds wonderful, one snag though - he's not alone. Through meeting fellow jumper Griffin (our very own Billy Elliot - Jamie Bell) he finds that none of them are safe as a secret organisation called the Paladins is out to kill them all. Pretty soon one of these Paladins, in the form of Samuel L Jackson, is after him following him around the planet.
With the help of Griffin, Rice thinks he can outsmart these hitmen and leads him through some of the globe's most famous landmarks on a gripping chase.
It's a totally unbelievable premise - but then being based on a science fiction novel that's not surprising - and this film really lacks any depth, leaving several questions unanswered. But that's not to say that it's not entertaining and features some spectacular graphics and effects.
If you're expecting something really clever I'd give this one a miss but if you don't mind your sci-fi flicks to be shallow and more than a little corny, then this may be the film for you.
