Be Kind Rewind (12A)

MOVIE buffs are going to love this new comedy.
Rubber-faced comedian Jack Black teams up with Mos Def in this everso slightly far-fetched movie about two best friends, one electromagnetic field, and every
movie you've ever loved.
Whilst trying to sabatage a power plant which he believes is melting his brain Jerry (Black) becomes magnetised and he accidentally erases all the tapes in the old-fashioned video store where his best friend Mike (Def) works.
To stop his friend from losing his job Jerry comes up with the ingenious idea of remaking one of the erased films in his junkyard - and unbelievably it becomes a hit.
Told you it was far fetched.
Very soon Mike, Jerry, a bunch of friends are in full-time production, re-making movies, from Ghostbusters to King Kong, and in doing so help breath new life into their tired neighbourhood.
Those who adore classic movies from the last 20 years will love the techniques that Jerry and Mike adopt to recreate the classics - from using fishing line and tinsel for the proton beams in Ghostbusters to mangling food to represent blood in Boys in the Hood - it's absolutely hilarious. But it is let down slightly by the slow pace between the remaking scenes.
It's true that Black plays his usual Tenacious D typecast self and the premise is absolutely ridiculous but it doesn't stop it from being a good film with some really funny moments.
