REMAKING a classic story - no matter how A-list your actors are - is always going to be a risky business.
You either have to make something so original and so totally unexpected that it stands out miles from its predecessors o
therwise you may as well save the millions and just make a run-of-the-mill romcom - that way your bound to endure a lot less criticism.
The Invasion is a re-imagining of the classic 1956 Invasion of the Body Snatchers movie, which itself was remade in 1978 starring Donald Sutherland and Jeff Goldblum.
To be fair director Oliver Hirschbiegel has attempted to update the story in this Nicole Kidman and Daniel Craig fronted version by toying with the idea of the alien's overtaking human's bodies as being a virus that, in America, is being referred to as the Flu.
Kidman plays a single mum who slowly realises that people around her are not behaving as normal and, once she comes across as piece of skin-like matter, her best friend (Craig) - who is luckily a doctor - analyses it for her and soon discovers its bodysnatching capabilties.
It's all a bit obvious and, sadly, not groundbreakingly new and the ending is very disappointing compared to the earlier versions.Put quite simply, it's a remake that didn't really need to happen.
