ABERGELE 133-6
RHEWL 132-9
(Abergele won 7-3)
SCORING proved to be tricky as Rhewl were beaten in their Division Two trip to Abergele.
The sides shared some 260 runs in over 85 overs, but an undefeated 50 from Abergele’s Neil Roberts ultimately proved vital to the outcome as the home side came out on top by five wickets.
Batting first, both Rhewl openers found themselves back in the pavilion early in the face of a fine initial spell from Rana Das (3-11), before Rhewl’s fightback was guided by Alex Gill’s 41.
Andrew Halliday added 23 as Rhewl aimed to set a decent target, while number six batsman Gareth Morewood top scored with 43.
In the hunt for quick runs, the villagers suffered a trio of late run outs and they had to settle for 132-9 when their 45 overs came to a close.
Spinner Rob Eccles (3-30) and Matt Best (2-21) did their best to keep Rhewl in with a chance when it was Abergele’s turn to bat. Neil Roberts wasn’t for shifting, though, and his innings of 50 not out guided the hosts to a winning 133-5.
