LLANDUDNO 125-5
DENBIGH 123
(Llandudno won by five wickets)
IT was always likely to prove a tough ask for Denbigh to complete a momentous treble over multiple North Wales League champions Llandudno.
With one league win and a T20 competition triumph against the seasiders already safely tucked away this year, Ben Wilcox-Jones’ side travelled to the Oval targeting a fantastic hat-trick.
However, it wasn’t to be as Llandudno continued their quest for a sixth consecutive Premier Division title with a solid five-wicket victory.
Denbigh were soon under early pressure as Llandudno opening bowlers Jack Rimmington (1-30) and Gordon Kerr (2-30) picked up an early wicket apiece.
Darren Nixon (14) and Tom Schrimshaw (17) did attempt to turn the tide, but a steady loss of wickets meant that the visitors could not build a substantial target for Llandudno to chase.
The innings of 56 from Australian all-rounder Marcus Adams was the away side’s stand out performance as Denbigh finished up on 123 all out.
As far as Llandudno were concerned, their top performer with the ball was Graham Boase (4-26).
Despite their modest total, the Ystrad Road side were not out of the game and a superb start saw them reduce the high-flyers to a testing 14-3.
Marcus Adams (2-42) and Alec Lewis (1-11) caused the early damage.
Persistent showers made batting and bowling difficult, however a fourth wicket stand of 60 between Aled Williams and Sam Rimmington helped Llandudno to get home with five wickets in hand. Gerallt Lyall (1-26) was the remaining Denbigh bowler to pick up a wicket.
