RHEWL 181-3
MARCHWIEL WREXHAM 67
(Rhewl won 10-0)
RHEWL turned the formbook on its head to romp to arguably their best win of the season.
Marchwiel Wrexham would have been classed as near promotion certainties before their Division Two trip to face Rhewl, but a clutch of stunning individual performances saw the villagers claim a superb maximum points triumph.
Before the defeat, Marchwiel Wrexham had an eight-point buffer in the race to go up, but they’re now a point behind Carmel with only one match left to play.
The game was reduced to 38 overs per side due to rain and Rhewl were able to put themselves in a strong position after being put into bat.
Ieuan Lewis was in superb form at the top of the order, cracking an impressive 12 boundaries on the way to top scoring with 69.
Alex Gill (46) was also in fine form for Rhewl, with further support being supplied by Jon Eccles (22) and Simon Williams (22 not out).
All of this meant that the hosts set a challenging 181-3 from their 38 overs and Chris Willsdon soon had Marchwiel Wrexham in a spot of bother when it was their turn to take to the crease.
Willsdon ripped out the top order on the way to fine figures of 5-26 from 11 overs.
There was no let-up for the high-flyers when Simon Williams and Rob Eccles came into the attack.
Eccles claimed 1-0 from his solitary over, while Williams secured a brilliant 2-4 from 2.3 overs to help dismiss Marchwiel Wrexham for 67.
