BALA 103
BODEDERN 106-5
(Bodedern won 7-3)

AFTER leading the way for so long this season, disappointed Bala have missed out on the chance to make the step-up to Division Two.

They were in the last chance saloon on Sunday, requiring a big win at home to fellow high-flyers Bodedern to preserve their promotion hopes, but it was the Anglesey side who were celebrating at the end after the 7-3 win secured their own promotion to Division Two.

Much of Bala’s success over the course of the summer has come from them chasing, but they had to bat first over the weekend after losing the toss.

Early wickets put the hosts on the back foot from the off, although skipper Sion Hughes (38) did well in his opening role.

Dafydd Hughes (15) and Iolo Jones (23) added runs further down the order, but Bodedern will have been delighted to bowl out their hosts for only 103.

Barry Lander (3-22), Edward Gadsby (2-13) and Ryan Taylor (2-16) proved to be effective with ball in hand.

Renewed hope did arrive when Bala accounted for both Bodedern openers cheaply, but this was to be the highlight. Edward Gadsby scored 57 not out batting at number three and that innings helped  Bodedern reach a winning 106-5 with more than 10 overs to spare.

Bala’s wicket takers on the day were Iolo Jones (1-20), Joe Evans (1-14), Dafydd Hughes (1-17) and Joseph Edwards (1-16).
