DENBIGH 170
BANGOR 171-3
(Bangor won by 7 wickets)
DENBIGH couldn’t capitalise on a stunning start in the field as they slipped to a Premier Division loss at home to Bangor.
The Gwynedd side were left chasing 171 to gain a seventh league triumph of the summer, but Australian all-rounder Marcus Adams initially left Bangor’s hopes in tatters.
Bangor were reduced to 0-2 after just four deliveries of their innings, but they recovered remarkably well to take the spoils by seven wickets.
Opener Gwilym Lloyd Jones (58 not out) and skipper Robert Marshall (72) compiled a 127-run third-wicket stand to put the visitors in control, while a quickfire 30 not out from Kevin Williams saw them speed to victory with 171-3.
Spinner Harrison Jones (1-26) was the only other Denbigh bowler to pick up a wicket.
Earlier in the day, Denbigh will have been happy to have ultimately reached 170 all out in one ball shy of 50 overs.
They were in trouble at various stages of their innings, being reduced to 41-4, 74-5 and 111-6.
But a rapid knock of 46 from Tom Schrimshaw kept Denbigh in the hunt, supported by patient lower order efforts from Alec Lewis (28) and Gerallt Lyall (20).
Harrison Jones (17), Marcus Adams (15) and Gwern Llwyd Owain (10) also reached double figures for the Ystrad Road side, while Bangor’s main wicket takers were Peter Banham and Sion Gwyn.
