IMPRESSIVE Llangollen got their 2012 campaign off to a winning start with a comfortable bonus point triumph at home to Division Three (North) rivals Flint.

The home side dominated up front, but the windy conditions and some speculative long passes meant that Llan struggled to put the finishing touches to the pressure the pack was putting on the visiting side.

This combined with very early injuries to centre Gareth Jasper and prop Arran Davies meant some re-shuffling in the hosts’ line-up.

In the second half, Llangollen began to show their pre-Christmas form and the final try was a fine move finished off by winger Josh Wilson under the posts, to cap yet another four-try performance.

The other points came via tries for second row Mike Jones and centre Cameron Lumsden, while skipper Richard Jasper chipped in with three conversions and a penalty.

Llangollen coach Ian Morris said afterwards: "We stuttered at the start and the two injuries meant a re-shuffle, so that took time for us to start firing.

“But when we did, we certainly showed why we are pushing at the top of the league.

“Josh had another good performance with four tries and number eight Gethin Jones carried the ball so well putting us on the front foot time and time again.”
