LLANNEFYDD 6
WEST SHORE 2
A PLACE in the final of the REM Jones Cup looks assured for Llannefydd.
Llan will go into the second leg of their semi-final against West Shore with a four-goal advantage following a dominant showing.
The hosts took the game to West Shore straight from the kick off, with Tom Sheridan having a couple of half-chances, but he fired wide of goal on both occasions.
Sam Jones had another good opportunity after a good run into the box, but his shot cleared the crossbar.
Llan eventually opened the scoring after good work from Ed Jones and Tom Sheridan allowed Floyd Richards to fire home.
However West Shore were soon level when they broke quickly from defence with Dave Maddocks firing and unstoppable shot into the far corner from 20 yards.
The first attack of the second half resulted in Llan going ahead again.
A good early cross from Kevin Rickard found Tom Sheridan unmarked to head home from six yards.
Rickard was soon in on the scoring action himself, netting the goal of the game.
He caught the Shore keeper off-guard and hit a powerful shot from 30 yards into top corner of the net.
Rickard was unlucky with his next effort, which was an acrobatic overhead kick that clipped the edge of the post.
West Shore pulled a goal back when they were first to react to when a corner was only partially cleared, with Brad Hollerhead scoring. Normal service was resumed when Rickard was in the right place to score again following a goalmouth scramble.
Things got worse for the away side when Dave Maddocks could only deflect a Sam Jones cross into his own net.
Rickard then completed his hat-trick with a fine individual goal, beating a couple of players before shooting past the keeper into the far corner.
It was an excellent team performance from Llannefydd, with Sam Jones prominent on the left side of midfield, while Ally Stubbs and man of the match Floyd Richards also stood out.
