AFTER the mud of recent cross-country events, it was the wind which competitors had to contend with in the annual Nick Beer 10k around Llandudno’s Great Orme.

However, it proved to the liking of Prestatyn Running Club members, who collected another haul of team and individual awards.

Steve Skates was once again in superb form, finishing third overall and leading the men’s team to gold in the Welsh championships, which were incorporated in the race.

There were several other members among the prize-winners in the open race and championship, with the Bagnall sisters again shining and helping the Prestatyn ladies take second place in the national championship.

Amie Bagnall was the third senior lady, while younger sister Jenna was the second U-20 and she was awarded with the trophy for the outstanding performance by a North Wales junior.

A total of 36 Prestatyn RC members turned out, among them Gordon Jones, who marked his comeback from injury and his move to Rhos-on-Sea by coming second in the M55 class.

A very impressive turnout of 29 hardy Denbigh Harriers completed the Nick Beer 10k.

The club picked up three national age category prizes, with Emma Collins winning gold in the F55 category, Victoria Whitehead silver in the F45 section and Menai Baugh bronze in the F55 category.

The conditions for this race were severe, with very strong winds and freezing temperatures making fast times on the course difficult.

Therefore, it was impressive that two Harriers - Shaun Hughes and Tony Wood - managed to get in under the 40-minute mark, with Daniel Jones and Craig Jones just over that time.

Emma Collins and Victoria Whitehead ran a close race, with just one place separating them in the end.

There were similar club finishes between Hywel Roberts and Daniel Schraibman, along with Melina Morris and Elen Baugh.
