CORWEN 3

SALTNEY TOWN 2

THE most important thing was that Corwen's clash with Saltney Town took place over the weekend.

This Wrexham Area League Premier Division encounter was due to be a home game for Saltney Town, but after a lengthy absence from playing for both sides, the clubs came to a mutual agreement to play on Bala Town's 3G surface at Maes Tegid.

Corwen were classed as being the ‘home’ team and the two clubs split the cost of hiring the pitch.

Saltney had the first chance, with Shaun Hughes' low shot being tipped wide by Corwen keeper Nathan Roberts.

The deadlock was broken in the eighth minute and it was Corwen who were celebrating.

A great move was ended when Ioz Jones sent a powerful shot into the top corner of the net.

The lead wasn't destined to last for too long, though, and a minute later, Paul Johnson's free kick from the edge of the box curled into the back of the net.

After Ioz Jones and Ryan Billington went close, Corwen regained the lead in the 28th minute.

Joe Williams was brought down in the box, resulting in referee Scott Campbell pointing to the spot.

Williams dusted himself off to take the spot kick and he was able to find the bottom corner to restore Corwen’s lead.

Saltney threatened early in the second half and Nathan Roberts saved Ryan Farrell's header with his feet.

Corwen stretched their advantage on the hour.

Scott Evans set up Joe Williams, who showed lightning pace to collect the ball and blast an effort into the back of the net.

Saltney pressed after this in an effort to find way back into the game and they pulled a goal back 12 minutes from time through substitute Dylan Edwards' strike.
