ST ASAPH 133-4

BRYMBO 130

SEEING off the challenge of the league leaders?

That turned out to be no problem for St Asaph over the weekend.

The Saints played host to North Wales Cricket League Premier Division frontrunners on Saturday and they dominated the contest to secure a six-wicket margin of victory.

On a warm day, Brymbo skipper James Claybrook called correctly during the pre-match toss and he elected to bat first.

That turned out not to be the best of decisions and Brymbo were soon in a spot of bother as they were reduced to 48-5.

Jason Foulkes (4-16), Richard Marsh-Evans (1-26) and David North (1-40) caused the early damage.

Joss Roberts (21), Gareth Pugh (29) and Greg King (37) did attempt to improve things from Brymbo's perspective, but the visitors were eventually dismissed for just 130 in the 44th over.

Duncan Midgley (3-24) and Andrew Bellis (1-22) claimed the remaining wickets to fall.

After tea, St Asaph's reply didn't get off to the most positive of beginnings and they were soon struggling on 23-2.

Daniel Parry (2-28) accounted for the wickets of openers Mathew Ryan and Duncan Midgley relatively cheaply.

Although Nathanael Scott struck a patient 20, the destiny of the contest was still in the balance when St Asaph found themselves being reduced to 56-4, still 75 runs of success.

It was all about the Saints after this, though, and an unbroken stand of 77 for the fifth wicket saw them home to their third triumph of the season.

Skipper Will Ryan was in superb form courtesy of his unbeaten knock of 66, while good support was supplied by Jason Foulkes (21 not out).

When the dust had settled, St Asaph were left to pick up 13 of the 15 points that were on offer.
