WE all know that nothing lasts forever and that is particularly true of the weather at Llyn Brenig, writes seasonal ranger JIM JENKINS.

We were actually starting to get used to waking up in the morning, pulling back the curtains and seeing the sun beating down upon us.

However, as last week progressed that scenario started to become less and less likely until by the end of the week, we were more familiar with a cloudy sky and gusty, strong winds.

By Sunday, there was even a bit of a chill in the air, which was a far cry from the weather of the previous week.

The water temperature has also dropped quite dramatically, to a far more fish

friendly 14C by the end of the week.

Overall, the lake fished a lot better last week than over the previous week.

Bank fisherman S Thulwell, from Crewe, certainly had a very successful day catching six fish for 13lbs, which was the biggest bag of the week - and he caught and

released a further 12 fish, all caught along the visitors' centre bank.

Boat fishermen also did well, particularly towards the end of the week, with Corwen's Brian Lloyd landing 12 fish on Saturday and Simon Bullock catching 12 fish on Sunday, including the biggest fish of the week - a 3lbs 8ozs rainbow.

The top flies have been sedges, buzzers, black tadpole, green snake, nymph, daddy long legs, fritz, cormorant, diawl bach, cat’s whiskers and various blobs

and boobies.

The hot spots for bank fishermen were the visitors' centre, Tower Bay, Hafod Lom and the Brenig Arm.

Boat fishermen had success in the Brenig Arm, Tower Bay, along the dam wall and the quarry.

We would like to wish our regular Brenig fishermen Emyr Breeze and Barry, from Bala, every success in the this weekend's disabled fishing international at

Eyebrook.

The main gates will be shutting at 8.45pm this week and all boats need to be back on the jetty by 8.15pm.
