LLANDYRNOG 3

RHEWL 2

RECORD breakers Llandyrnog are just 90 minutes from more silverware.

The most successful club in the Shield have made their way through to another final after edging out Rhewl in a tense last-four clash in Clawddnewydd on Monday evening.

The Cae Nant side will now target a 19th Shield when they tackle either Llanrhaeadr or holders Henllan in the final at Rhewl this Friday evening.

A tense first half witnessed few chances, with both sets of players finding the dry conditions tricky.

However, Jimmy McNally's side did head into the break in front courtesy of Alun Davies' strike shortly before the half-time whistle.

Rhewl responded in positive fashion and substitute Phyl Roberts flicked home a leveller early in the second period.

Two goals in the space of 11 minutes saw Llandyrnog regain the advantage.

On 66 minutes, David Clayton netted with an exquisite free kick from distance.

Then, after 77 minutes had elapsed, Craig Jones put the lads in green ahead from the penalty spot.

A thunderbolt volley from Jason Williams revamped Rhewl's hopes with six minutes remaining, but Llandyrnog clung on to their lead.
