SO, Llandyrnog are set to win the Tony Evans Memorial Shield tonight!

That's if Free Press readers are to be believed.

We ran a poll on Twitter asking people who they thought would win tonight's final between Llandyrnog and Llanrhaeadr.

By the end, 59 per cent plumped for Jimmy McNally's side, who are looking to win the competition for the 19th time in their history.

However, Llanrhaeadr must go into the showpiece final as favourites, having beaten champions Cefn and runners-up Henllan in previous rounds.

The match at Rhewl (kick-off 7pm) is between the two most successful clubs ever in the Shield.

Between them, they have won the competition on 27 occasions, with Martin Baldry's Llanrhaeadr going for their 10th success this evening.

Success has been thin on the ground for both clubs over recent years, though, with Llanrhaeadr and Llandyrnog winning just four Shields between them this century.

Llandyrnog last triumphed in 2013, while Llanrhaeadr's last success came way back in 2001.

Surprisingly, considering the two clubs are original members of the league, they've only met in the final of the Shield during three seasons - and the last time came more than half-a-century ago.

Back in 1965, Llanrhaeadr beat Llandyrnog 3-2 in a final replay, which came on the back of a 2-2 draw in the previous meeting.

The first final between the clubs was n 1953, with Llanrhaeadr running out 2-1 victors, while Llandyrnog gained their revenge with a 4-2 success six years later.
