DOLGELLAU 2

CORWEN 2

AN away day draw marked the latest pre-season outing for Corwen.

With the start of the new Wrexham Area League campaign now under a fortnight away, Danny Jellicoe took his side to Dolgellau on Saturday.

Both sides can take something from the encounter, which finished up 2-2.

On target for the visiting side were Scott Evans and Ioz Jones.

Impressive Corwen defeated higher league opponents in midweek to maintain their good pre-season run.

The lads from War Memorial Park were on their travels to take on Huws Gray Alliance outfit Holywell Town.

Wrexham Area League Corwen began the match brightly, with home keeper Andy Metcalf pulling off some good saves, including a couple from trialist Sam Henry.

Holywell also posed a threat going forward and they hit the crossbar with one effort and sent a shot narrowly wide of the target on the brink of half-time.

Corwen made six changes at the interval, but this did not spoil the flow of their play.

As with the opening period, Corwen started the second half well.

It was Sam Henry who gave the visitors the lead with great lofted shot over a crowded box in the 55th minute.

Five minutes later and the Wellmen were given an opportunity to level things up from the spot.

However, Corwen's lead was preserved as Sam Jones' attempt was met by a great save from keeper Nathan Roberts.

Corwen made victory safe when they doubled their lead in the 83rd minute.

Some good build-up play ended with Ioz Jones getting through on goal and he slid the ball past Metcalf.

The final whistle confirmed a richly deserved victory for Corwen against heavily fancied higher league opposition.
