MARCHWIEL WREXHAM 140-9

AN excellent bowling and batting display fired Ruthin to a bumper 14-point haul during their spot of weekend action.

The Memorial Park Fields outfit were on top throughout their North Wales Cricket League Division Two tussle at home to Marchwiel Wrexham.

Due to rain, the match was reduced to 42 overs per side.

Batting first after they won the toss, Marchwiel Wrexham did enjoy a solid start to their innings.

Openers Michael Forgrave (12) and Jerry Wellens (10) got decent starts, while number three batsman Sam Shoemark top scored for the visitors with 52.

Henry Probin struck 27, however the ball was mightier than the bat during the early portion of the afternoon and Ruthin did well to restrict their visitors to 140-9.

Sion Hughes was the pick of the Ruthin attack and he claimed 3-33 from eight overs.

Also among the wickets for the home side were Llyr Williams (2-21), Sandeep Anantharaman (2-21) and Matthew Duckworth (2-36).

One disappointing aspect of the innings from Ruthin's perspective was the fact that they conceded 21 extras.

After tea, Ruthin required only three batsmen to achieve victory.

Opener Michael Parton was the star of the chase courtesy of his unbeaten knock of 50.

Sion Hughes completed an excellent all-round showing courtesy of his innings of 48 not out and opener Duncan Roberts struck 37.

All of this meant that Ruthin reached a winning 142-1 in the 29th over.

With six matches left to play, second-placed Ruthin trail frontrunners Gwersyllt Park by 24 points.
