QUIETLY optimistic.

That's the view from the camp as Denbigh Town prepare for the new Huws Gray Alliance campaign.

Denbigh will begin their programme on Friday evening at home to Gresford Athletic (7.30pm).

The fact that the Central Park club are optimistic at this point of the year is testament to the hard work that has been done behind the scenes at Denbigh during pre-season.

Joint-boss Dewi Llion said: "It's gone really well.

"If you go back eight weeks ago, we didn't have a single player.

"But we have done really well in pre-season.

"We have got a good team now and they all get along really well."

Llion added: "We have only recruited players we have worked with or played with.

"The only ones we haven't have been Lewis Sirrell and Curtis Langton.

"We are optimistic.

"We haven't set ourselves any targets.

"We are just going to take every game as it comes."

The quality of the Huws Gray Alliance is there for all to see this season, with the likes of Bangor City, Rhyl, Prestatyn and Airbus UK Broughton all likely to be vying for the title.

Llion added: "There are some teams that are chucking money at it and we haven't been able to compete with that."

Looking ahead to Friday's opener, Llion added: "It will be a very tough game on Friday night.

"When you look at their front three, they have got pace.

"The biggest thing is being organised in possession and out of possession."
