CHIRK AAA 6

DESPITE suffering a heavy opening day loss, Llanuwchllyn boss Riki Rowlands remains in an optimistic mood.

It was a new look Llan team that took to the field of play to tackle Chirk AAA in their opening match of the Wrexham Area League Premier Division campaign.

Familiar figures in the upper reaches of the standings, Chirk began their season in the best possible manner courtesy of a 6-0 scoreline.

Rowlands said: "We have lost four or five players over the summer.

"Some have gone to higher league teams and some have gone to Corwen."

"We have got a young team this season, with a few older heads in there too.

"We are just going to take it one game at a time."

Chirk went into a 2-0 lead, before Llanuwchllyn had an excellent chance to cut the deficit.

In the game's pivotal moment, the home side won a penalty, but Iwan Roberts wasn't successful with his effort from 12 yards and Chirk soon went 3-0 in front.

The man of the match as far as the visitors were concerned was Joe Evans, who hit a hat-trick on the day.

Also on the scoresheet for Chirk were Louis Middlehurst, Josh Phillips and Andy Pryde.

"To be honest, I couldn't have asked any more of the players," added Rowlands.

"The Chirk manager said afterwards that it was never a 6-0 game."

As well as those who had left the club over the summer, Llanuwchllyn were also without half-a-dozen players for their first match of the season, due to the National Eisteddfod and other events.

Llanuwchllyn's man of the match was young winger Cai Johnson.
