RHOSTYLLEN 0

CORWEN 5

FIVE-STAR Corwen have continued their excellent start to the campaign.

Danny Jellicoe's charges continue to rule the roost at the head of the Premier Division of the Wrexham Area League on the back of a thumping 5-0 success at winless Rhostyllen.

Corwen’s squad was boosted by the inclusion of Sam Henry, who despite signing way back on July 27, only received international clearance a couple of days before this fixture.

With eight minutes on the clock, the visitors cut through the Rhostyllen defence with a great move.

This ended when Ioz Jones crossed the ball to Alex Webster and he was bundled over by a defender, resulting in referee Barry Wilding pointing to the spot.

Joe Williams couldn’t find the back of the net with the penalty, though, as keeper Josh Jones pulled off a brilliant save to tip the ball against the crossbar.

However, the custodian could only look on helplessly as the rebound went back to Williams, who made no mistake at the second time of asking.

Williams was in the thick of the action again in the 14th minute.

Scott Evans poked the ball out to the striker, whose shot from the edge of the box went into Jones’ grasp.

Three minutes later and Williams unleashed a powerful shot at goal, which produced a good save from the goalkeeper.

Alex Webster slid in trying to get on the end of Ioz Jones' cross, but this just eluded him.

The ball went through to Eilir Edwards, who played it back to Nathan Davies and he poked the ball home to make it 2-0.

It looked like Joe Williams was going to double his tally when his shot had Josh Jones beaten, but the ball clipped the post.

Rhostyllen threatened when Owen Williams was played in, but under pressure from Jak Newell, his rushed shot was saved by Dylan Jones.

It was pretty much game over five minutes shy of the interval.

Ryan Billington did well to keep the ball and it was eventually crossed to Alex Webster, who nearly broke the net with his powerful shot.

Corwen continued on the front foot in the second period and Paul Jones' effort from distance went just wide.

New signing Sam Henry was narrowly off target with a further attempt, before Corwen extended their lead in the 73rd minute.

Ryan Davidson found the top corner of the net with a scorcher of a shot from the edge of the box.

The scoreline was 5-0 in the 87th minute.

Davidson crossed the ball to Sam Henry, who found the bottom corner of the net with a cool finish.
