RUTHIN TOWN 2

GUILSFIELD 0

IT'S a similar story to last season from Ruthin Town's perspective.

Two goals from Llyr Morris have taken him to the top of the scoring charts in the Huws Gray Alliance.

Now on six goals for the campaign, he is one clear of Asa Hamilton, Corrig McGonigle and Mark Cadwallader, of Airbus, Conwy and Flint respectively.

Morris was the league's leading scorer last season and he grabbed a goal in each half over the weekend to ensure Ruthin Town claimed the three points on offer at home to Guilsfield.

The Ruthin team showed two changes from the side that was edged out by league leaders Airbus UK Broughton, with Cai Davies and Gwydion Ifan came into the team.

The game started with Guilsfield enjoying the bulk of the possession and striker Steve Blenkinshop was a handful with his direct running during the initial stages.

Guilsfield's main attacking threat was the long throw they had, but the Ruthin defence and goalkeeper Ryan Goldston did well to clear their lines throughout the contest.

Gradually, the midfield of Ilan Hughes and Osian Davies started winning their battle midway through the half.

This gave the front five of Gwydion Ifan, Cai Davies, Gwion Owen, Ryan Jones and Llyr Morris plenty of attacking opportunities to break the deadlock.

The breakthrough eventually came on 32 minutes.

Cai Davies and Ryan Jones combined well down the left and from Jones' is cross, Llyr Morris was there to brilliantly volley home from 16 yards.

On the back of this goal, Ruthin were now on the front foot and they were looking to add to their tally before half-time.

Gwydion Ifan and Cai Davies were having plenty of joy down the flanks and they put plenty of crosses into the box.

Chances continued to go in Ruthin's direction and Kevin Evans was off target with an attempt from Ilan Hughes' corner.

From the resulting cross, Matty Evans' deft flick hit the post and the ball was cleared by Guilsfield.

The second half started with Ruthin once again on the front foot.

Ryan Jones demonstrated great quick feet to find a shooting angle, but his effort was inches wide of the far post.

Meanwhile, Llyr Morris had a good chance to bag his second goal on the hour, but he fired over when well placed.

Morris didn’t have to wait too long for his next goal, though.

On 62 minutes, the star striker headed home an inch perfect cross from Cai Davies.

Ruthin weren't content to rest on their laurels after this and Ryan Jones twice went close to adding to the team tally from free kicks.

Both of these strikes were well saved by Mike Jones in the Guilsfield goal.

Ruthin had a great chance to make it 3-0 when they were awarded a penalty with 10 minutes remaining.

Gwion Owen was the player who was brought down in the box, but captain Ilan Hughes blazed his spot kick over the crossbar.
