CONWY BOROUGH 4

DENBIGH TOWN 1

SEVEN days on from shocking Bangor City, Denbigh Town couldn't make it another fabulous Friday when they tackled Conwy Borough.

In the reunion with former Town supremo Gareth Thomas, his energetic Conwy side bagged the three points Huws Gray Alliance points on offer via a 4-1 margin.

Denbigh didn't enjoy the best of starts, with passes going astray and the long punt upfield seemed to be the visitors' favoured option.

In fairness, the midfield was very tight with little room for anybody to get hold of the ball.

Denbigh did threaten after a series of passes along the back.

Eventually, Curtis Langton knocked the ball up to Alfons Fosu-Mensah, whose cross just eluded Jake Walker.

At the other end, the referee decisively pointed to the spot following a tackle by Denbigh centre half Tony Davies on a Conwy forward.

Corrig McGonigle smashed home the penalty to make it 1-0.

The visitors went on the attack following this setback.

Fosu-Mensah set up Sam Jones, whose effort went over the target and minutes later, Walker flicked the ball on to Fosu-Mensah and his shot was tipped over by ex-Denbigh keeper Keighan Jones.

Denbigh also won a free kick at the edge of the box during this spell, but Fosu-Mensah's set piece ended up high and wide.

Conwy Borough settled after this and they were able to create further opportunities.

Sean McCaffrey had a good shot at goal and McGonigle went close with a header.

It was 2-0 on the stroke of half-time.

McGonigle received the ball in a crowded box and after some good play and a quick turn, he shot hard and low into the corner of the net.

Borough continued to impress following the interval and midfielder Bryn Roberts had a terrific chance to make the game safe, but he shot over from eight yards out.

Minutes later and Dean Seager found himself in a one-on-one situation with advancing keeper Craig Vernon, but he shot well over.

At the other end, Denbigh had two shouts for a penalty turned down.

Rhys Llwyd's shot hit a defender's arm and would have been a harsh award, while stronger appeals came when Sam Downey looked to have been brought down by a defender, but once more nothing was given.

Any hopes of a Denbigh comeback ended on 63 minutes.

Tommy Creamer made the most of an error by the visitors to volley home from 25 yards.

Even better was to follow for Conwy when they went 4-0 up.

Substitute Cory Williams squared the ball into the dangerzone and Denbigh replacement Bailey Jackson was unlucky to divert into his own net.

Denbigh's goal arrived pretty much straight from the restart.

Lewis Sirrell ran down the left and put a good ball into the box for Sam Downey to volley in from close range.
