ABERYSTWYTH TOWN 3

BALA TOWN 2

AWAY day woes continue for the lads from Maes Tegid.

Boasting a 100 per cent winning record at home this season, Bala Town are still seeking a first point on their travels in the Welsh Premier League.

The frustrating away performances continued on Saturday night at Aberystwyth Town in front of the live TV cameras.

For the opening 20 minutes, Bala were bright and they were on top of the play, with Henry Jones, Ian Sheridan and Steve Tames all causing problems to the Aber defence.

But, like at Newtown and Barry, the lack of being clinical came back to punish the Lakesiders and on 23 minutes, it was the home side who broke the deadlock.

A throw-in from the right came to Geoff Kellaway on the corner of the 18-yard box.

He managed to wrap his foot around the ball, with the effort deceiving everyone and finding the back of the net.

Large parts of the game were being played out in the middle third of the pitch, with clear cut chances few and far between.

However, the away Town had a great spell of pressure before the interval, with Jones firing wide from 25 yards.

Soon after, Aberystwyth keeper Leigh Jenkins pushed away Jones’ dipping goalbound effort on the half-time whistle.

The second half saw Bala in brighter mood and they should have been level only a minute after the restart.

Andy Burns delivered a cracking ball into the box, but Tames’ header was pushed away brilliantly by Jenkins.

Next up for a chance was Jones, whose free kick from 20 yards out was again saved by Jenkins’ strong hand five minutes into the half.

Anthony Miley half-volleyed over from a corner as Bala continued to press, prior to Stuart J Jones heading over from birthday boy Nathan Burke’s corner kick.

The Lakesiders were eventually level after 67 minutes.

Substitute Mike Hayes fantastically cut through the two centre halves and lobbed the keeper from 18 yards to make it one-apiece.

Further disappointment arrived 10 minutes later, though, as Aber restored their lead.

Replacement Ahmadi brought the ball down from Matthew Jones’ cross and fired home.

Worse was to follow for Bala and the home side extended their advantage even further with three minutes left to play.

Ahmadi was in the thick of the action once more to set up Ruane to seal the points.

As the board showing three minutes of added time went up, Bala were awarded a penalty when Henry Jones was brought down in the box.

After a discussion between the linesman and referee, the spot kick was given for Jones to fire into the top right hand corner.

Unfortunately, this was a case of too little too late for the visitors to salvage a point.
